It has been a busy (and cold) week! On Monday , we enjoyed cooking chocolate truffles together. On Tuesday afternoon, we joined the Kapa Haka Club and played some traditional Māori games and did some traditional Māori activities. Finally, on Wednesday, we took a full day field trip to Larnach Castle and did a tour there, and finally we went to the Royal Albatross Center to see the huge albatross birds!
On Sunday evening, we had a BBQ at the school with all of the host families and students. It was a good chance to eat a lot of food while chatting with other students.
The girls have completed their first week of school! In addition to morning English lessons, we took afternoon trips to a local Game Center and to the Otago Museum to see a butterfly habitat.
This weekend will be spent with host families. There is an All-Blacks rugby game vs. Australia and a Nadeshiko Japan Women’s Soccer match on Saturday, and the Peace Ceremony for August 6th on Sunday. I’m sure it will be a busy weekend!
Good morning! English lessons have begun. Our teachers are Amanda and Sharron from Otago University. In the afternoon on August 1st, we made bracelets and necklaces with beads. In the afternoon on August 2nd, we visited the Toitu Settlers Museum and learned about the first settlers to come to Dunedin from Europe.
Good morning from cold Dunedin!
Today we enjoyed a traditional Māori welcome ceremony. OGHS students performed a song and haka dance for us, and Yasuda students performed our school song. Now it’s time for English lessons!
